The office of Elam Oy, which manufactures building boards, is covered with various wood veneer patterns up to the ceiling. The company is in Mäntsälä, but the customers, interior design professionals, are mainly in the capital region. How are customers reached, and how have methods developed over the years?

“We started marketing development six years ago by renewing the look of our website. Digital marketing is most important to us as print media is so costly. When the resources are put into digital marketing, the results are outstanding,” says Elam CEO Jussi Ala-Kauhaluoma.

The company was part of the pilot group of a project where companies developed digital marketing for half a year with the help of experts. “Our principle, like entrepreneurs in general, is to do everything ourselves. We got perfect practical instructions and exercises, so now we know how to do it. Social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram have been created. If an update is made to either of them, the same post goes to both.”

“Email advertising is crucial to us. We planned the marketing, checked things that need to be fixed when sending the mails, and of course, the layout has been updated. As a result, newsletter opening rates are high. It is not easy to directly measure whether a bid or an architect’s contact comes through marketing, but if we get one or two contacts from there that lead to a sale, it has paid for itself many times over.”
