A Pioneer of Sustainable Fashion Relies on Collaboration

Located west of the Helsinki Ring of Industry, in Vihti, Globe Hope has been a pioneer in sustainable fashion since 2003. The company is renowned for its innovative solutions that transform recycled and surplus materials into fashionable and durable products.

Globe Hope’s operations are built on a strong brand and expertise. The company is known for its commitment to responsibility and transparency, and it aims to set an example for other businesses. “To succeed in the future, a company must be genuinely responsible and transparent,” says Seija Lukkala, the founder of Globe Hope.

“We are committed to sustainable development and the principles of the circular economy, which are key to future growth. This is evident in our concrete actions, such as reusing materials and minimizing waste. With new technologies, we can further improve efficiency and reduce environmental impacts,” she explains.

One of Globe Hope’s most popular products for years has been bags made from seat belts.

Circular Economy is at the Core of Sustainable Fashion

“As consumption grows, virgin raw materials are depleting, so it is essential to also reuse textiles. By creating high-quality and well-branded designs, recycled materials can be brought back to life and transformed into new products. The circular economy is not just a trend; it is an essential part of our business strategy,” Lukkala says.

“For example, seat belts have strict safety standards, and sometimes they may have color defects. With us, the material is not wasted but given a new life. Only creativity sets the limits,” summarizes Jan Timm Utecht, CEO of Globe Hope. Currently, the design table is covered with discarded bedspreads, which will be used in the fall 2025 collection. “You have to be ahead of the game. Typically, the design work is done about a year in advance.”

Recycling offers possibilities not only in the form of textiles but also in fibers that can be reused to make fabric from recycled materials. Currently, less than 10% of the materials and yarns used by the company are purchased new; the rest are recycled materials and surplus.

Sustainable Fashion Expects Global Collaboration

Globe Hope’s operations are based on strong collaboration with local and international partners. Handling recycled materials requires specialized skills from seamstresses, so supplier relationships are long-term and well-maintained. Bags and accessories are made in Finland and Estonia, but clothing production also involves partners in India.

“India produces the majority of the world’s textile waste because there is a lot of garment production. It makes sense to manufacture products where the material is,” Utecht explains. “We have close relations with a trusted factory in India and sourcing partner who oversees the operations,” he continues.

Globe Hope is also an active participant in various events and charity projects. The company has collaborated with organizations such as World Vision, WWF, and UNICEF. “We are known as a pioneer in the circular economy, so we want to leverage that visibility. As a small company, we have done a lot of work with various charities and are happy to offer our products for fundraising purposes because we want to highlight social issues,” Lukkala says.

Globe Hope collaborates extensively with various companies to produce sustainable corporate gifts and workwear. Over the years, they have partnered with more than a thousand companies in Finland.

Recycling Knowledge Forward

Globe Hope is ready to share its expertise and experience with other businesses and help them develop sustainable business models. “From time to time, various international delegations have come to see what and how we do things here,” Lukkala says.

“Collaboration is the key to success, and we are always open to new ideas and collaboration opportunities. Globe Hope offers excellent conditions for innovation and sustainable business. Welcome to explore and invest in the future with us,” Lukkala sends a message to potential new partners.

The company’s location is also excellent from an international perspective. Vihti serves as a logistical hub near the Helsinki metropolitan area, connecting different markets and enabling efficient flow of goods. “Our location is ideal for international companies looking to expand their operations. Good transport connections and modern infrastructure make the area an attractive investment destination,” Lukkala adds.
